Loser Like Me (Glee Cast Season 5 Version)
I was watching Valerie, and I just saw this now for the first time.
I can’t stop laughing. This was pointed out to me this morning and I was asked if I had any thoughts about it. First, it isn’t something I’d noticed even though I watched the episode a few times. My only thought on it is that it honestly looks like Artie’s enjoying himself. And that’s what’s important here, ultimately. Sam is pretty good at including Artie, and as he seems to be doing the upper-body choreo, and seems to be enjoying being able to do the lower body choreo with Sam’s help. Mine is obviously not the only voice on the subject, but I always take into account who it is doing the touching (a friend) and how Artie looks (happy.) Also, I feel like it’s notable that Sam is touching Artie’s legs. A lot of times able-bodied people can be hesitant to touch a person in a chair’s physical body. The chair, they’ll touch. But not our actual body. In short, I think this is a great moment of inclusion, and I really liked that it was pointed out to me!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! Sam’s had a lot of affectionately physical background moments with Artie over the years, so I’m inclined to think there’s a good comfort level there between them, but I wouldn’t necessarily know if this was appropriate. I really appreciate the insight!
i’m sorry, did i have an auditory hallucination or did they try and canonize sam as being left-handed when we’ve seen him write with his right hand multiple times??
ETA: I SHOULD ADD THAT I REALLY LIKE THE IDEA OF LEFTY!SAM HAVING BEEN TAUGHT TO WRITE WITH HIS RIGHT HAND SO MY INCREDULOUS RESPONSE IS HALF “BUT GLEE WHAT” AND “OOH COOL NEW CANON SAM CHARACTERIZATION STUFF!”
ahhh i hadn’t thought about that, but i really like the idea too. being taught to write with his non-dominant hand would totally explain why the result is adorably clumsy and kindergartenish, too:

Overstreet wants to see more tunes like “Red Solo Cup” for Sam. “I’d like to sing a classic country song. That’s what I grew up singing and writing with my dad being a country music writer. Sam has had a lot of hardships and been through so many ups and downs that I’d like to see something for him where he may have stumbled onto something great.”
Brittany and Sam watch a performance in the “New Directions” episode of GLEE.
