Ohhh Sam

encourageons:

I love Sam Evans so so so much. I think he’s one of the sweetest, nicest, kindest, characters on my TV and I would love for him to exist in real life. Another thing I really love about him is that he puts his foot in his mouth when stressed. And I love that those things show the culture he was raised in. He’s that dude that grew up loving everyone and accepting, yet surrounded in an environment that reinforces all of these negative ideas. Basically, what I’m saying is that I’m happy they took him (again super sweet guy) to say those racist and privileged comments.

No one is perfect and we all are victims of the culture we live in. We are victim of its ideologies and its problematic values and norms. And sometimes, it takes a lot of effort and introspection to realise why something we believe in is problematic. It sometimes takes people calling you out, and you realising that you are being inappropriate. That does not mean that you are a bad person.

One of the studies I was reading talked about what makes a person less likely to be prejudiced. More precisely what type of media viewing would predict your level of prejudice. And they found that people who watch shows that have a character that is relatable (close to your own cultural group/identity) and interacting with a character from a different group, are less likely to be prejudiced.

The way I see it, in Glee Sam is that character. Seeing him being overall good and making these comments (while absolutely awkward), was great. If only because it shows that no matter who you are, you can say racist, sexist, homophobic etc comments and never mean to do so.

Sam couldn’t sleep, but unfortunately our fave fanfic ‘Wookie Nookie’ hasn’t updated yet, so in the meantime we thought we’d put together a little wedding collage for the ‘Star Wars’ lover in us all (I’m still working on Kurt, but I’m wearing him down with his love of Harrison Ford). What wedding would be complete without Han Burgers, an Ewok wedding cake, and Storm Trooper mints (minti-chlorians, if you will)?! Oh, gotta go – the next chapter is up, and our warm milk (courtesy of Kurt) is ready. Yuow! (Sam tells me that’s good-bye in Wookie!)

Late night Sam Evans thoughts:

kurttanacedes:

Sam does fall in love really quickly. It’s his fatal flaw, but also proves how great a character he is. He cares about people, so he lets them in. Especially with love. Even when he gets hurt by it, he empathize with the people who hurt him instead of getting back at them or being bitter. Quinn hurt him and he didn’t seek revenge, Santana hurt him and he brushed it off because he knew how she was, Mercedes couldn’t risk her faith to be with him a second time, he still tried his best and still sees her as not only a great friend but desirable as well. Brittany hurt him and he still is her friend too. Blaine slut shamed him and now they are the best of friends.

You can’t tell me Sam Evans doesn’t have a great heart and if you tried you would be so wrong.

The writers may not be great, but Sam and Chord are.
