i’m the same anon from before about the beiste story line, and i was just a bit shocked by the angry reaction of some cis people in the fandom who went so far as to say what beiste said was not what “real” trans people experienced. but like not everyone has the same experience and i thought it was explained pretty well, especially considering he’s an older person coming out.
people saying it’s unrealistic is probably what makes me the most frustrated.
figuring out you’re trans isn’t always a straight line of personal insight and always feeling like you know exactly who you are, you just need everyone else to see it too. i admire people who have always been able to put their feelings into words, who state their correct gender when they’re young children, but that is not the reality for a lot of trans people, because many trans people don’t even know what being trans is (or that it’s a thing at all).
which means i also admire trans people who have adults around them telling them what their gender is when they’re kids, and then believe them. you feel weird and wrong, maybe, but it’s what you’ve been told your whole life so how could any other reality exist? you don’t know of anything else!
