that in the Chinese version of Disney’s Mulan, the fake name she gives is “Ping”, but her family name “Fa” in English is “Hua” in Chinese, therefore her full name is “Hua Ping”, which is literally “Flower Vase”, and that’s why Shang is so bewildered because it’s a silly name.

but OP how could you not tell them the best part

“hua ping”/flower vase is chinese slang for “camp gay”

I remember a teacher telling me how Archaeologists would hack off the noses of statues they found in order to remove any indication that it was of a black person or any POC. It hurts me to think of all the art we’ve lost and damaged because of historical revisionism and flat out racism.

erasure of ethnic identity in art is, in fact, a form of genocide.

Alright, because this shit has come back around on my dash, I’ll copy and paste the little paragraph I wrote last time:

Not quite. While archaeologists in the 19th and 20th centuries were quite racist and Eurocentric, they were not going around knocking noses off of statues. Most Ancient Egyptian statues were defaced (or de-nosed, more accurately) by other ancient Egyptians, specifically laborers who were attempting to exact some measure of revenge on the pharaohs and other leaders that these statues depicted. I say “revenge” because in the Ancient Egyptian religion, the soul (kaa) entered and exited the body through the nose, and a sufficiently strong kaa (like that possessed by a pharaoh or another high-ranking person) could even return to visit the land of the living by inhabiting a statue carved in their image. By knocking off their nose, these ancient laborers were denying their oppressors the chance to visit Earth again from beyond the grave. The Great Sphinx is another story entirely. According to Al-Maqrīzī, a historian from late Mamluk-era Egypt, the Sphinx was defaced in the late 14th century by a Sufi (Muslim mystic) who was enraged by the fact that the ostensibly-Muslim people of Giza were praying to the Great Sphinx (supposedly, beseeching the mighty Sphinx for help controlling the annual Nile flooding).

Jesus people, educate yourself before spreading this nonsense.
